Our Story

Why we built breadkultur

We've been baking sourdough for a few years now. What started as a small lockdown experiment quickly turned into a real passion. Suddenly we were getting up early to check on the dough, testing wild hydrations, and keeping multiple starters alive at the same time — like little pets. Our kitchen became a lab, a bakery, a place for curiosity and, of course, fresh bread.

At some point we wanted to share our starter — first with friends, then with friends of friends, and soon with people we didn't even know. That's when we realized: it's not that easy to find a starter locally or connect with other sourdough enthusiasts. And that's exactly what we wanted to change.

That's how breadkultur was born — a place for everyone who loves sourdough. Here you can find and share starters near you, show what you're baking, and learn from others. No barriers, just the joy of baking bread.

We're a small team from Berlin and we built breadkultur because we believe that good, honest bread brings people together. The platform is free — and it's going to stay that way.

Whether you're baking for the first time or you practically live in flour: welcome to breadkultur.
